  21. in some way!  At the very least, you could meet the copying conditions
  22. by dropping the *entire* contents of

  42. I agree, except that I would use latex instead of latex2e.  We should
  43. always have a latex directory; only what's inside it should change
  44. from version to version.  Currently my latex directory contains
  45. everything that I use together with latex209:

  59. Once I upgrade to latex2e, my latex directory will contain base +
  60. graphics + psnfss + tools.  I haven't decided yet if I'll even bother
  61. to keep around the latex209 files, but if I do I'll just rename the
  62. above latex directory to latex209 and create a new latex directory to
  63. hold the latex2e files.

  65. If I were you, I wouldn't bother to keep around a latex209 directory
  66. in lib.tar.gz.  People who're installing a new unixtex from scratch
  67. won't care about supporting latex209.  Only people who *already* have
  68. latex209 might want to hang onto their latex209 files, and we can tell
  69. them to move their files out of the way into a latex209 directory
  70. before unpacking lib.tar.gz.

  81. Yes, this is the REAL problem with converting to latex2e.  I can't 
  82. just rename latex to latex209 and create latex/base + graphics +
  83. psnfss + tools; it looks like I have to get

  88. I want to keep using the 35 standard PostScript fonts in latex.
  89. Pierre MacKay very kindly created this archive to help guide unixtex
  90. installers.  I'm not sure if I could have gotten the same files by
  91. unpacking psnfss's *.dtx files or if I would have had to go get them
  92. from

  99. I still don't understand how the new Cork encoding (T1) affects the
  100. Computer Modern fonts or what I have to do if I want to be able to
  101. process European latex files that use the new T1 encoding.  It looks
  102. like I will have to get entirely different Computer Modern fonts (the
  103. dc fonts or something like that) in addition to the fonts I already
  104. have.  What a hassle.  Karl, all of us will thank you on our knees if
  105. you can resolve the pmtr0 vs. rptmr naming difference, update dvipsk's
  106. psfonts.map, and include everything we need in lib.tar.gz's
  107. /usr/local/lib/texmf/fonts to be able to use PostScript fonts AND
  108. Computer Modern fonts in either encoding.
